HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Gulfstream Park announced today that its live races in 2014 produced a record $1.2 billion in handle. Gulfstream’s record handle, an increase from $826 million in 2013, came despite head-to-head competition for six months with Calder Casino and Race Course.
Along with an increase in handle, Gulfstream’s field size has grown from an average of 8.65 during the 2013-2014 meet to 10.5 during the first month of the 2014-2015 meet. Gulfstream’s field size during the inaugural Gulfstream Park West meet was 8.65.
“We’re happy with the progress we made in 2014,” said Gulfstream President and The Stronach Group’s COO Tim Ritvo. “None of this would be possible without the bettors and horsemen. We believe with no head-to-head competition this coming year our commitment to grow the sport of Thoroughbred racing in Florida will produce even greater results.”
